“So a young business man stood up and thought that he would test this man who called himself the “Son of God”, saying, “Teacher, what do I need to do so that I can live forever?”
And He said to him, “What is written in the Old Ways? How does it read to you?” And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” And He said to him, “You have answered with the right answer; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”
But the young man, full of pride and wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus replied and said, “A man was walking down a road and got jumped by some young guys, and they stole his laptop and all his stuff, beat him, and went away leaving him half dead.
And by chance a leader of one of the biggest churches in town was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he crossed the road and walked on.
Likewise another believer from another church also, when he came to the place and saw him, crossed to the other side of the road and kept walking.
But a Muslim man, who was driving by on his way to the mosque, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him and pulled out his bag some bandages, cleaned up his open sores still bleeding from the beating and he put him in his car and brought him to the local hospital and took care of him.
The next day he realized that the man did not have any health insurance so he gave them his credit card and told them to put all the hospital expenses on that card, because he was going to take care of it.
Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?
And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”
